The CCTV solution for the offshore platform Arkutun Dagi on the Sakhalin Island required resistance to potential earthquakes and extremely low temperatures. HERNIS Project Engineer Mr. Øyvind Skarstad elaborates on the project and the measures taken to meet the extreme requirements:

"The extremely cold and humid climate on the Sakhalin Island off the East coast of Russia requires equipment that can endure constant extreme and challenging conditions over time, as well as resist potential earth quakes. HERNIS is responsible for both the marine and drilling CCTV solutions for the rig. The HERNIS EX286 camera station is GOST certified for extremely low temperatures. The pant/tilt/zoom unit has already been operating successfully on the Vankor field in Siberia, providing us valuable experience in this type of extreme climate. The living quarters and secure helicopter waiting areas are equipped with our indoor dome PT70. This camera station is also DNV type approved conforming to the physical environmental requirements applicable to instrumentation and automation equipment on ships, high-speed and light craft, such as vibration, temperature and humidity requirements.

For earthquake protection the central rack was delivered with enforcements to the construction and glass doors plastered with 3M safety film to hold the glass together in the event of an incident. The control system for the drilling & production rig is a hybrid HERNIS 400/500 system for the drilling operation. For the marine operations, a second HE500 system was employed."

HERNIS CCTV equipment is purpose fit for the most demanding environments in any part of the world, so even though the Sakhalin Island is extreme, the general HERNIS portfolio is applied with only minor enforcements. We are proud to be the preferred supplier in this kind of project that hits the bulls eye of our field of expertise, says HERNIS Sales & Marketing Manager Mr.  Jan Kristensen.

The Arkutun-Dagi offshore platform will be one of the largest float over platforms in the world, operating in sub-arctic waters on the east coast of Russia as a part of the offshore oil and gas development at Sakhalin Island. The rig is a Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL) installation and HERNIS was awarded the CCTV contract by the Russian company Sakhneftegaz Engineering LLC (SNE) who is responsible for the engineering, procurement and technical support services for the topsides/drilling rig.

HERNIS has provided four HERNIS 500 CCTV Systems for the Sakhalin 1 Project on the East coast of Russia, all of which will be integrated. More...
